The GleisMonitor 2-GBS

General:


The GleisMonitor-GBS is the counterpart to the GleisReporter and the StromSniffer 3A. It also supplements the RoutenMann-GBS, to display active routes, which can be represented by set feedback signals.

It is used to illuminate occupancy messages and routes in a control panel and can be combined with all GBS modules.

Function Mode:

The operation of the GleisMonitor-GBS is very simple: The module constantly looks in the CAN bus for the telegrams running there. If a feedback message is detected, the system checks whether this message belongs to a connection of the module and if the found message matches, the display of the corresponding connection is updated.

It does not matter from which source the message comes. How the message is then displayed or interpreted at the end depends on the connected LEDs and the corresponding structure. However, the module can only display simple feedback, as on/off or better said: 0/1. To be able to display confirmations with more information content, a more complex module is required that is not yet available.

Connection:

Relays, LEDs with series resistor or incandescent lamps can be connected to each output of a GleisMonitor-GBS. The module is not! galvanically isolated and the outputs are not! short-circuit proof. A load of 100mA per output should therefore not be exceeded during operation. If the small LED on the module lights up, then no wiring work should be carried out .

The power supply of the module is carried out centrally via a PowerBox or the RoutenMann-GBS, which should only ever be present once in such a structure. The operating voltage applied there must be 12 volts DC.

The two small LEDs on the left side of the board indicate the operating status:

green LED:

If the green LED lights up, the operating voltage is applied and everything is OK, but then no wiring work should be carried out.

If the green LED flashes quickly, the operating voltage on the system bus has dropped below 9 volts and the module has stopped evaluation operation. If the voltage rises again, this error is automatically reset.


yellow LED:

LED on: The module works in ZCAN mode according to the Zimo protocol. The solder pad above the "Learn" button is closed.

LED off: The module works in MCAN mode according to the Märklin protocol. The solder pad above the "Learn" button is open.


The voltage is switched through the drivers on the GleisMonitor-GBS to the consumers. These are so-called LOW-side switches, which switch the ground for the consumer.

The positive voltage, i. e. the common PLUS connection for all consumers to be operated on this module, is located in the middle of the module on the 2-pole screw terminal.

The consumer, usually the LED, must be connected to the desired output with its negative connection.

Addresses & Coding:

The GleisMonitor-GBS no longer needs to be coded via a DIP switch, it has - like most other modules - a button for "learning" the desired feedback address. In this way, any feedback can be assigned to each output.

Of course, several outputs can also be assigned to the same feedback unit on one or different modules. There is no limit to the combinations!

"Learning" is very simple:

The "Programming key" (LernTaste) needs to be pressed until the desired output on the GleisMonitor-GBS flashes. This indicates that it is waiting for a feddback message in the system bus for this output. The next feedback received is then permanently assigned to this output until the next "Learn" procedure. If the associated message is "occupied", the output is active, if a "free" is transmitted, the output is switched off.

Such feedback for learning can be generated by simply occupying the track section.

It is a bit more comfortable if there is a CS2/3 in the system. If you create the feedback device in the layout, which you want to assign to the GleisMonitor-GBS, it is sufficient to press the desired feedback symbol in the layout of the CS and a feedback is sent in the system bus, which programs the GleisMonitor-GBS.

Of course, setting is much more convenient with the service tool for this module

Service Tool:

The most comfortable way to program the GleisMonitor-GBS is of course the service tool, which allows access to the module's settings via the CC-Schnitte.


The operation is self-explanatory. First, a module address must be assigned to each module in the system. New modules that report for the first time are recognized by the tool and notified to the user, so that this cannot be forgotten.

Under the outputs, which are counted from left to right, only the desired feedback address must be entered. After writing the settings are stored in the module. Of course, the settings made can also be read out from the list by calling up the module using its number.
